Shalita Grant (born August 28, 1988) is an American actress who portrayed as Sonja Percy in NCIS: New Orleans, and also portrayed as Aurelia Johnson a stoic "contraband," or escaped slave on Mercy Street.

Biography[]

Grant was raised in Petersburg, Virginia, and attended high school at the Baltimore School for the Arts in Maryland, where she was a YoungArts Winner in Theater and Presidential Scholar in the Arts. At 17, she received a scholarship to attend the Juilliard School for her B.F.A. in Drama, graduating in 2010.

Grant was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Play in 2013 for her performance as Cassandra in the comedy Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike. The play won the Tony for Best Play as well as the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Play. She won the 2013 Theatre World Award for Outstanding Broadway Debut. Other stage works includes roles in The Philanderer for The Pearl Theatre Company, and The Public Theater productions of Measure for MeasureThe Winter's TaleThe Merchant of Venice, and A Midsummer Night's Dream.

Following her Tony Award nomination, she moved to Los Angeles to pursue television where she fondly recalls her struggles in auditioning 54 times within one year for various roles and, at one point, while running out of savings, briefly turned to bartending before landing a series of guest star roles in The Good WifeBattle CreekBones, and Melissa & Joey and finally series regular on NCIS: New Orleans. On Janaury 31, 2018, Grant announced that she's leaving the cast after the conclusion of four seasons and 69 episodes.

Her film credits include shorts Empire Corner (2010), Invisible (2010), and the Oscar-nominated documentary, Rehearsing a Dream (2006).

Grant splits her time between New Orleans, Louisiana, where NCIS: New Orleans is filmed and Los Angeles, California.
